LYDA HILL GEMS & MINERAL HALL
Date: 2012
Exhibit design and art direction for the Gem and Mineral Gallery at the new Dallas Science Museum.
Drawing inspiration from the geometric structure of pyrite crystals, I designed the gallery entrance as a signature architectural feature that welcomes visitors into the exhibit. The remaining six crystal habits were incorporated throughout the gallery interior, creating a cohesive visual language and reinforcing the educational narrative of the space.
I also developed the mineral display casework concepts, which were subsequently engineered by the fabrication team into secure, front-access display systems. The case tops conceal an intricate fiber-optic lighting network that precisely delivers illumination to individual mineral specimens, enhancing visibility while maintaining a clean and elegant presentation.
